DEMO OUTSIDE PHIL PORTERS PET SHOP

21.08.06
On Sunday, our first protest was held outside of Furry Friends pet shop in Barnham, which is owned by Phil Porter, and is where some of the animals rescued from his site were due to be taken for sale. Other animals would have been sent to other pet shops in the area or for animal feed.

The public support was incredible, with many people, including long-time customers, declaring that they will never buy anything from his shop again. A couple of his friends claimed he was an animal lover, although after to talking to the most passionate for nearly an hour, she seemed to have completely changed her opinion, and left, wishing us luck!

Despite being a small town on a Sunday, over 130 leaflets were handed out to potential customers, and several boards with pictures of the dogs in veal crates, and other images from his site, along with a large banner reading "BOYCOTT FURRY FRIENDS" ensured that everyone driving past knew why we were there too.

The police turned up after nearly three hours, and after standing in his doorway for a while (which meant that no one could enter or leave the shop), they told us we could stay as long as we wanted. We told them that this is to be an ongoing campaign until either Mr Porter is banned from keeping animals, or he is simply forced to stop breeding them.
