Two restaurants in the Porsmouth area have stopped selling foie gras, as a
result of the ongoing campaign by SARC and Southsea Animal Action.
9 activists attended the third peaceful protest at Truffles on Castle Road,
Southsea. After about 20 minutes, the owner informed us that foie gras was being
removed from the menu.
Next stop was Truffles (same name, different owners) in Fareham. After a brief
discussion with the owner, we agreed a meeting with the chef. Whilst we waited,
we handed out leaflets to a very receptive and supportive public. The chef came
out at the end of the evening to declare that they too are now foie gras free.
Tom Harris, a spokesperson from SARC stated, "We are pleased to see that
restaurants across our region are making the ethical decision to remove foie
gras from their menus. This so called 'delicacy' is made in such horrific conditions
that its production is only allowed in four EU countries. The bottom line is
that force feeding is cruel, unnecessary and abhorrent to any right minded person."
