QINETIQ CAMPAIGN HITS THREE SITES IN ONE DAY

07/09/06
We started of the day at the Alverstoke QinetiQ site, where the navy diving experiments are carried out. We began by pointing out the following facts:

1) QinetiQ have been carrying out hyperbaric tests on goats for over 40 years.
2) Recent research papers suggest that very little useful data has been found in that time.
3) Hyperbaric tests with goats have been conducted since 1905.
4) The reason goats are used is because, in 1905, they were deemed to be a similar size to an adult human, and there were lots of them about!
5) Within the last 100 years, the French navy have moved on to more scientific (non-animal) methods of research.
6) Several MP's have expressed concern at these tests, and have contacted senior QinetiQ officials.

After making this clear to the staff, and a very supportive public, we moved down the road to the Haslar Marine Technology Park - owned by QinetiQ. Chanting continued, and the banners kept a visual presence.

Third stop, Portsdown Hill. This site is huge, and we arrived here at 4pm to coincide with workers leaving. Many workers expressed sincere support for our campaign, and lots of passers by honked their horns. Three hours later, as the last workers drifted out we left.

Please contact us if you want to come along on these protests!

A final mention must be given to Gosport and Portsmouth police who did a great job all day. We thank you for your professionalism.
